Maya is a seasoned and sought after independent non-executive director, serving on the boards of public and private companies, as well as non-profit organisations.  She chairs the board of Datatec Limited (global IT products and services), and is a director on the boards of Mpact Limited (packaging), Truworths International Limited (fashion retailer), Ellies Holdings Limited (electronics), the AIG South Africa Group (insurance), the Nelson Mandela Foundation which focuses on social justice and was established by the late President Nelson Mandela, Funda Wande and The Starfish Foundation – the latter three being non-profit organisations.  Maya has extensive experience as chairman or member of Audit, Risk, Remuneration, Nominations and Social and Ethics Committees. 

She resigned from the boards of Tiger Brands Limited (food and beverages) and FEM Education Foundation (non-profit) at the end of Dec 2021.  She was a past director at WWF South Africa, Vodacom (Pty) Limited, the Chairman of Vodacom Foundation South Africa, and also sat on the boards of Vodacom Foundation Tanzania and Vodacom Foundation Lesotho.

Maya has gained experience across a number of areas in various industries.  She has held executive director positions in financial services, human resources, marketing communication, corporate affairs, strategy and business reengineering.  She has extensive experience in the SADC region and other African countries, as well as in some markets in Asia.

She joined the Vodacom Group as Chief Officer: Corporate Affairs and worked for the organisation from June 2012 till July 2106 and was responsible for the corporate affairs function across all Vodacom companies.  Her portfolio covered Vodacom Foundation activities, reputation management, stakeholder relations, sustainable development, media relations, and employee engagement and communication for the Group.  She was also the executive sponsor of the Women’s Network Forum.
