Iain is a Labour member of the House of Lords (the UKs second chamber) having been introduced in 2018. Appointed as a deputy-speaker in the Lords in 2020.
Iain served as the Secretary General of the Labour Party from 2011-18, moving from the position as National Political Officer of the GMB Union. He has a long history of organising in both the Labour and trade union movement.
Iain has built a portfolio career sitting on a number of advisory boards –

– Rewired.Earth – a sustainability platform that values our values; creating a financial system that is the biggest force for good on the planet.
– Astra Protocol – delivering a decentralized legal layer that enables DeFi protocols to comply with ever-changing regulations – AML & KYC specialist.
Iain is married and has a son and daughter and the family have lived in London for over 25 years. Iain grew up on in West coast of Scotland. He holds a black-belt in karate, and plays the bagpipes.
